"Detention Without Physical Examination of Dried Soup Mixes From Hong Kong"

Reason for Alert:
This alert originally issued on August 8, 1993. Review of FY92 detention data indicates that filth in soup mixes from Hong Kong continues to be a problem. Of 12 detentions in FY92, 8, or 66%, of the entries were refused due to filth. These shipments represented 7 different manufacturers/shippers.

Guidance:
Districts may detain, withotu physical examination, all shipments of dried soup mixes from Hong Kong for insect filth.

"The article is subject to refusal of admission pursuant to Section 801(a)(3) in that it appears to consist in whole or in part of a filthy, putrid, or decomposed substance, or is otherwise unfit for food in that it contains insect filth [Adulteration, Section 402(a)(3)]."
