In January 2011, CTP held three webinars with stakeholders, including small and large tobacco industry businesses and public health and tobacco control professionals, to inform them of the substantial equivalence regulation and requirements. CTP held a follow-up webinar for the small businesses in recognition that small businesses will likely be impacted the greatest. The goals of the webinars were to increase stakeholders’ understanding of substantial equivalence requirements and to build goodwill with the partners. The webinars featured a presentation about the new requirements and a question and answer session. All materials were provided online and are currently archived on the <a href= http://www.fda.gov/TobaccoProducts/Labeling/TobaccoProductReviewEvaluation/NewTobaccoProductReviewandEvaluation/SubstantialEquivalence/ucm304518.htm target=”_blank”>CTP website</a>. The webinars were extremely successful in terms of IT, logistics, and establishing dialogue with the stakeholder evident from the rich exchange during the Q&A portion, namely during the small and large tobacco industry webinar. An after action was held after each webinar and lessons learned include the need to prepare subject matter experts (SMEs) with the ability to provide more thorough and timely responses. 1.
