Middle East and North Africa Region Science-based Food Safety System Course

Middle East and North Africa Region Science-based Food Safety System CourseDevelop, in collaboration with Jordan FDA (JFDA) and others, a curriculum about food safety principles to be offered by the Agency, a university, or Jordan AmCham for food manufacturers. Increasing food safety public awareness and education is part of JFDA’s Outreach to the food manufacturing community and is within their 2011 strategic plan. JFDA has an oversight of FDA-regulated products and is considered the ultimate scientific and regulatory authority on food safety in Jordan. It is also taking a lead role in the region with respect to regulations development and training in the area of inspections and standard setting. This course will cover the principles of a science-based food safety system to be piloted in Jordan. Training and education will help food manufacturers in integrating such principles in their operations. As such, the products they produce will be safe, not only for their own population, but also for the U.S. population when such products are exported to the U.S.

OIP’s key projects are ongoing but will no longer be tracked in FDA-TRACK. Going forward, on a rotating schedule, the Foreign Offices will summarize their efforts related to outreach, technical assistance, capacity-building, relationship-building, etc. during the Quarterly FDA-TRACK Briefing. The notes from their reports will be documented in the Quarterly Briefing Summary on the FDA-TRACK webpage.
