    <title>Membership and Recruitment</title>
<description>Develop an improved recruitment plan and an improved systematic approach to seeking nominations on a continuing basis for potential advisory committee membership where a vacancy percentage is &gt;25% over a 6 month period for any one particular committee. The ability of the FDA to attract and maintain access to qualified members is critical to the successful performance of the advisory committees. This project will seek to increase public awareness, increase the number of nominations and appointments, and decrease advisory committee vacancies for committees in most need of qualified members.</description>

    <outcome></outcome>
<accomplishment>FDA’s advisory committee program continues to seek opportunities and strategies to fill vacant positions on its committees. In this past year, we have successfully increased our interactions with outside organizations and have published recruitment announcements in organization newsletters and meeting programs. We have increased our relationships with consumer and community based organizations and worked with those groups to fill consumer representative vacancies on our committees. These efforts have helped FDA reduce the overall number of vacancies on our committees in fiscal year 2010 which has been tracked and posted on the &lt;a href=http://www.fda.gov/AboutFDA/Transparency/track/ucm237648.htm target=”_blank”&gt;Advisory Committees Dashboard&lt;/a&gt; on FDA’s website.</accomplishment>
