Stakeholder Meeting Series

Description: Enhance the Center’s public health mission by developing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders.

Accomplishment: The Center for Tobacco Products was charged with implementing the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act with the goal of reducing the tremendous toll of disease and death caused by tobacco use. From March 2010 through September 2011, CTP conducted several Stakeholder Discussion Series meetings that included a broad cross-section of our stakeholders. These meetings were designed to establish relationships and create opportunities for further engagement as the Center embarked on a variety of ground-breaking and challenging regulatory actions. Meaningful discussions were held within a roundtable setting that provided an opportunity for dialogue between CTP leadership and a limited number tobacco control officials. Observers in the room as well as those listening on the phone also had the opportunity to ask questions. The six groups of Stakeholders included: (1) State and Local Tobacco Control Officials, (2) Tobacco Manufacturers and Growers, (3) Minority Populations, (4) American Indians/Alaskan Natives, (5) Tobacco Distributers, Importers, Retailers and Wholesalers, and (6) Youth
