Description: Develop Competency Models for MCO - Develop 3 Competency Models to update position descriptions and vacancy announcements as well as to conduct a competency proficiency assessment of the Center's workforce so as to determine any proficiency gaps. This project assures the Center's workforce has the knowledge and skills necessary to operate as a high performing organization.

Accomplishment: CVM's competencies define the knowledge, skills and abilities needed by CVM staff to support the Center's vital human and animal health objectives. CVM has accomplished the following activities as a result of this project:

• CVM utilized the technical competency models to draft competency-based PDs. The information captured in these PDs allows for the development of effective job analyses, the creation of assessment questions that will successfully gauge an applicant’s knowledge, skill and ability pertaining to the occupations, and the development of informative vacancy announcements which will outline the fundamentals of the positions advertised;
• The development of the competency models was a crucial milestone in defining the Center’s multi-faceted, competency-based staffing approach; and
• The competency models will also afford the basis for CVM’s strategic human capital procedures.
