NARMS Data Management Systems Project
Description: Enhance data management systems for timely reporting of NARMS data. NARMS is a collaboration between FDA, CDC, and USDA that monitors antibiotic resistance in foodborne pathogens collected from humans, food animals, and retail raw meats. NARMS data provides regulatory officials and the veterinary medical community with critical information to help assess the risk associated with antimicrobial use in food animal production. This project will provide information to better understand and combat antimicrobial resistance in foodborne pathogens. (1)
Accomplishment: An integrated database has been built on FDA’s extranet site which will allow partner labs access to enter data. The annual report for NARMS can now be generated more efficiently and the data can be shared more effectively.

- (1) The dates in italics under the milestone due dates are modified due dates which had to be updated due to real-time delays. The milestone status reflects the modified dates.
- (2) The NARMS integrated database project (IDB) was previously delayed because IDB was waiting on OIM and OAGS to buy the software and set up servers. These procurement and infrastructure issues have been addressed. The security approval was received on 9/30/2012 with no further delays. The website is up and running on the extranet.
