About FDA

Office of the Chief Scientist Intramural Research Grants

Description: In support of the Agency’s regulatory science initiative, we established five Office of the Chief Scientist (OCS) Intramural Grant programs: The Medical Countermeasures Initiative (MCMi) Challenge Grants; Nanotechnology Grants-Collaborative Opportunities for Research Excellence in Science (CORES); The Chief Scientist’s Challenge Grants; Office of Minority Health (OMH) Challenge Grants; and Office of Women's Health (OWH) Intramural Scientific Research Funding Program. Only FDA research scientists may apply for challenge grants. The challenge grant process includes submitting concept papers and full proposals using harmonized web-based applications in SharePoint. The concept papers are reviewed by the leadership of each FDA Center and ranked. Only concept papers with high ranks are invited for full proposals. A full peer-review panel is established to evaluate the full proposals and some are selected for funding.
