Dictionary: It is critical that laboratories are capable of correctly isolating and identifying food borne pathogens using prescribed methods; and that the methods perform as designed. Proficiency testing (PT) provides a means to assess the performance of laboratories and methods that would be used during an outbreak. The desired trend is completion of 80% of PT exercises with a >90% success rate.
