Number of animal rooms scheduled for sentinel animal surveillance during the month
Dictionary: Laboratory animals are susceptible to a wide variety of bacterial, viral, and parasitic infections which can result in an altered animal model that consequently affects research. DVS monitors for various infectious disease agents to assure that healthy animals are maintained.
Extensive environmental and health monitoring activities will ensure pathogen exclusion from animal colonies, bedding, and feed in order to maintain high quality research. (1)

- (1) A target is unable to be set for the number of animal room surveillances conducted during the month because of the surveillance dependency on animal room occupancy. Animal room occupation is complex and unpredictable as it is based on research study elements which change continuously.
