About FDA
Number of emergency preparedness exercises which FDA participated in planning, executing, or evaluating during the month
Dictionary: The Office of Crisis Management (OCM) will lead the agency in participating in one Department of Homeland Security (DHS)-sponsored and one Health and Human Services (HHS)-sponsored national exercise each year as well as any regional exercises which provide scenarios calling for FDA-response efforts. These exercises, which involve numerous federal departments and agencies as well as some state and local agencies, provide FDA opportunities to test current plans and procedures for responding to specific types of incidents and help identify any gaps or weaknesses that might exist in FDA's response capabilities. These would allow the agency to make improvements to its emergency operations and response plans, procedures, policies, etc. OCM's overall goal is to increase FDA's participation in emergency exercises as the number of exercises that have relevance to FDA's mission increases.
