Dictionary: Recall related firm press releases are those initiated by the manufacturer on the product being recalled. Issuing a Class I recall press release notifies the American public about the presence of an unsafe product on the market. Publishing these notifications encourages the public not to use potentially hazardous products. The Office of Enforcement (OE) encourages all product manufacturers to issue firm press releases about all recalls but cannot require this.

Dictionary: 24 Hour Alerts are submitted by the field to inform headquarters of any recalls. These alerts formally initiate the processing of recalls in the Agency. 24 Hour Alerts should be submitted by the Field within 24 Hours of receiving the necessary recall information from the recalling firm.
