Title:  Pharmacokinetic disposition of enrofloxacin in brown trout (Salmo trutta fario) after oral and intravenous administrations

Authors:  Koc F, Uney K, Atamanalp M, Tumer I, Kaban G

Drug:  Enrofloxacin

Fish species:  Trout, brown

Date:  2009

t1/2-hr:  22

Sample:  blood, plasma

Ave Weight (gm):  170

Ave Water temp (°C):  10

Water:  Freshwater

Dosage:  10 mg/kg sd

Route:  PO

Comments:  Fish were anestitised with 30 mgL MS-222. Ciprofloxacin was not detected in plasma at any of the time points, 0.08h-120h following administration. Half life alpha=3.0. AUC=55.0. Cmax = 2.30 ug mL, Tmax=8h. The elimination half-life for EF was longer than values calculated for mammalian and avian species, but similar to other fish species. Mean plasma concentration was well above the minimum inhibitory concentrations (>0.5ug/ mL at 36h) for most gram negative fish pathogens.

Metabolites:  Ciprofloxacin
