Reason For Recall Heeren Brothers Produce is recalling Athena cantaloupes distributed to small independent grocers in Michigan July 23-26, after routine testing by FDA found product contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly or others with weak immune systems. Healthy individuals may suffer short-term symptoms, such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain or diarrhea. Listeria can cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.
