Report No.:  17
Type of Conclusion:  1
ID Code:  8000-78-0
Year:  1973
CFR Section:  184.1317
SCOGS Opinion:  The long history of the use of garlic in food and acute, chronic and inhalation studies, although limited, reveal no credible adverse biological effects even at concentrations which are of orders of magnitude greater than the levels reported to be currently consumed in man's daily diet. In view of the foregoing, the Select Committee concludes that: There is no evidence in the available information on garlic or oil of garlic that demonstrates a hazard to the public when they are used at levels that are now current or that might reasonably be expected in the future.
