SCOGS Opinion:  Extensive studies have been made to determine the nutritional significance of calcium and its salts. Calcium and the acetate, chloride, by the normal metabolic processes in man. Phytic acid is a naturally occurring constituent of foodstuffs of plant origin. The very limited use of calcium phytate appears insignificant in light of the natural occurrence of phytic acid. A review of the concentrations of calcium compounds normally present in or added to foods provides no evidence that suggests possible untoward effects at these levels. No evidence in the available information on calcium acetate, calcium chloride, calcium gluconate, and calcium phytate that demonstrates, or suggests reasonable grounds to suspect, a hazard to the public when they are used at levels that are now current or that might reasonably be expected in the future.
