Reduced cystine concentration in blood plasma exposed to broad spectrum light.

Heterozygote and homozygote Gunn rat blood plasma, as well as human blood plasma, was exposed for 24 h to broad-spectrum fluorescent light (Dura-Test Vita-Lite). The result of this exposure was the reduction of half-cystine concentrations in all exposed samples when compared to unexposed controls. The data suggests that the effect observed was not the result of direct photic energy absorption by cystine but was the result of a photic intermediate.
