Authors:  Luzzana U, Serrini G, Moretti VM, Maggi GL, Valfre F, Polidori P

Drug:  Oxytetracycline

Fish species:  Catfish, channel

Date:  1994

Sample:  muscle

Ave Weight (gm):  945

Ave Water temp (°C):  18

Water:  Freshwater

Dosage:  7500 mg/kg 7d

Route:  PO

Comments:  Three diet compositions tested (control diet = CD, high energy high protein = HEP, high energy high lipid=HEL) at two different water temperatures (18C, 23C). Oxytetracycline residue concentration (ug/kg) CD at 18C: 1d post-dose=58.3, 3d post-dose=38.5, 8d post-dose=16.1, 13d post-dose=10.3, 18d post-dose=not detected (nd). Oxytetracycline residue concentration (ug/kg) HEP at 18C: 1d post-dose=63.2, 3d post-dose=35.4, 8d post-dose=nd, 13d post-dose=nd, 18d post-dose=nd. Oxytetracycline residue (ug/kg) concentration HEL at 18C: 1d post-dose=95.0, 3d post-dose=49.1, 8d post-dose=11.1, 13d post-dose=11.0, 18d post-dose= nd. Effects of diet on oxytetracycline absorption, metabolism and excretion in channel catfish are significant at 18C and no statistically significant differences found at 23C.
