Comments:
Eggs were exposed to malachite green (MG) at 7 days post fertilization (dpf) for 30 minutes. Exposure was continued twice a week on 10, 14, 17, 21, and 25 dpf. Leucomalachite green (LMG) was the major residue found in fry indicating that malachite green (MG) can penetrate through the eggshell into the embryo and be metabolized. In newly hatched fry MG concentration was about 108 ug/kg and LMG concentration was about 498 ug/kg. 16 days post hatch (dph) MG concentration was about 1.4 ug/kg and LMG concentration was about 29.2 ug/kg. 31 dph MG and LMG concentrations were below 1 ug/kg. 43 dph no MG or LMG residues above the limit of detection were found.
