Title:
Piperonyl butoxide enhances the bioconcentration and photoinduced toxicity of fluoranthene and benzo[a]pyrene to larvae of the grass shrimp (Palaemonetes pugio)
Authors:
Weinstein JE, Garner TR
Drug:
Fluoranthene+piperonyl butoxide
Fish species:
Shrimp, daggerblade grass
Date:
2008
Sample:
whole body
Ave Weight (gm):
0
Ave Water temp (°C):
22
Water:
Saltwater
Dosage:
0.250 mg/L 96h
Route:
BATH
Comments:
Same as results for [Piperonyl butoxide+fluoranthene]. Fluoranthene (FLU) concentrations of 0, 0.68, 1.04, 1.84, 2.93, and 5.81 ug/L were achieved for each dose of Piperonyl butoxide (PBO). LC50=0.8ug/L. LD50=1195ng/g. PBO significantly increased the bioconcentraion of FLU in all treatments, with the greatest increases occuring in the lowest FLU treatments. Bioconcentration factor increased 35.4 fold compared to the control. Bioconcentration factor for 5.81ug FLU/L increased 1.9 fold compared to the control. PBO significantly increased the photoinduced toxicity of FLU. Water salinity was 20 ppt.
