Introduction: Background

In today’s world, the nation’s awareness of terrorism has been heightened and there is an increased focus on protecting the nation’s critical infrastructures.  Yet when most Americans think about the security threats that face our nation, they think about the events of 9/11 and other attacks on our physical infrastructures.  What is often overlooked is one of the most important infrastructures, one that affects each and every American everyday—the food supply.
