What type of lay summary should be sent to a patient who has a normal mammogram, but the facility is aware that the patient has an abnormal physical exam?

The facility has a great deal of flexibility in the format and substance of the lay summary. The lay summary must inform the patient of the results of the mammographic examination and follow-up actions, if needed. An acceptable lay summary could state that the mammogram was normal, but the patient should consult with the referring physician because of an abnormal physical exam.
