Knowledgebase of Federal Register Documents (OCAC eFR)
Description: Develop, test, and launch pilot of a searchable electronic knowledgebase of Federal Register (FR) documents and related information for cosmetic products, cosmetic ingredients, contaminants, and certain over-the-counter drug products (OCAC eFR knowledgebase). This tool will provide scientists and regulatory professionals in OCAC and partnering offices (e.g., OFAS, ORPSS) with desktop access to historical and current documents, increasing overall efficiency and effective communication.
Accomplishment: The cosmetics catalog of the eFR Knowledgebase pulls together into one searchable system all Federal Register publications on cosmetic-related topics, beginning with the passage of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act in 1938. This is a significant improvement over the GPO Access website at http://www.gpoaccess.gov/fr/index.html which reaches back only to 1994. The eFR Knowledgebase also streamlines searches by excluding numerous irrelevant results. Both factors will expedite the regulatory research needed to fulfill FDA's public health mission.
