Eugenol showed similar anesthetic property to that of a mixture of eugenol and menthol, but menthol used alone was ineffective. The minimum dose to induce anesthesia within 30 min was 200 uL/L. Induction time=29.1 min. Recovery time=18.5 min. Oxygen consumption=2 mg O2 kg/h. Eugenol accumulated in highest amount (35.2 mg/kg) immediately after anesthetic mixture treatment. Eugenol level reduced to 12 mg/kg after 12h. Eugenol was below detectable limits following 24 and 48h. Menthol was detected at 3 mg/kg immediately after anesthetic mixture treatment. Methol was below detectable limits after 12, 24, and 48h. Results indicate that eugenol and menthol residues accumulate in the tissues, however a 24 hour withdrawl period clears the residues from the tissue.
