Title:  Depletion of florfenicol amine, marker residue of florfenicol, from the edible fillet of tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus x O. niloticus and O. niloticus x O. aureus) following florfenicol administration in feed.

Authors:  Gaikowski MP, Mushtaq M, Cassidy P, Meinertz JR, Schleis SM, Sweeney D, Endris RG

Drug:  Florfenicol

Fish species:  Tilapia (hybrid)

Date:  2010

Sample:  muscle+skin

Ave Weight (gm):  488

Ave Water temp (°C):  27

Water:  Freshwater

Dosage:  15 mg/kg 12d

Route:  PO

Comments:  Fish were sacrificed by electrocution. Fish used in this study included females that were gender-reversed as fry using methyltestosterone. The dosing period was extended for an additional 2 d (12 d total) because Nile tilapia did not consume > 75% of the feed offered on the first two days. Mean minimum daily dose estimated at 12.3 (range:12.1-12.4) mg/kg BW/d (82% target daily dose).Mean florfenicol amine (FFA) concentration 1d post-dosing=0.78 ug/g, 2d-post-dosing=0.91 ug/g, 4d post-dosing=0.25 ug/g, 7d post-dosing=0.14 ug/g, 14d post-dosing=0.08 ug/g, 21d post-dosing = <0.08 ug/g, 28d post-dosing=<0.08 ug/g. FFA half life=2.32d. Significant differences in FFA concentrations were not observed at any time point between nile and hybrid tilapia.
