Title:  Biochemistry, cytogenetics and bioaccumulation in silver catfish (Rhamdia quelen) exposed to different thorium concentrations

Authors:  Correa LM, Kochann D, Becker AG, Pavanato MA, Llesuy SF, Loro VL, Raabe A, Mesko MF, Flores EMM, Dressler VL, Baldisserotto B

Drug:  Thorium

Fish species:  Catfish, South American (silver)

Date:  2008

Sample:  skin

Ave Weight (gm):  6

Ave Water temp (°C):  22

Water:  Freshwater

Dosage:  0.6087 mg/L 15d

Route:  BATH

Comments:  Fish were placed in recipients with water and ice for 5 min for anesthetization. Thorium (Th) concentrations in the water corresponded to a progressive increase of Th levels in the gills, liver, skin, and kidney, however, this relationship was not found in bile, brain, or muscle. Fish exposed to the highest levels of waterborn Th levels showed the highest levels of Th accumulation (287 ug/g) in the skin.
