Title:  Total residue depletion and metabolic profile of selected drugs in catfish: Benzocaine.

Authors:  Hayton WL (1995b)

Drug:  Benzocaine

Fish species:  Catfish, channel

Date:  1995

Sample:  blood, plasma

Ave Weight (gm):  594

Ave Water temp (°C):  25

Water:  Freshwater

Dosage:  *see comment

Route:  BATH

Comments:  Dose-70 mg/L for 5 min, then 35 mg/L for 30 min- *metabolites were observed in all tissues at 0 h and 4 h depuration; Residues: 0 h depuration= 47.1 ppm, 4h= 2.92. During depuration the concentration of radioactivity fell rapidly in all tissues and fluids but bile - reaching about 1 % or less of the 0 depuration time by 25 hr. Starting at about 25 h depuration, residue concentration in all tissues and fluids sampled appeared to enter log-linear phase having half-life of about 8 d, Benzocaine (14C)

Metabolites:  Acetylated benzocaine, acetyl-p-aminobenzoic acid*
