Title:  Dietary carotenoid levels affect carotenoid and retinoid allocation in female Chinook salmon Oncorhynchus tshawytscha.

Authors:  Garner SR, Neff BD, Bernards MA

Drug:  Astaxanthin

Fish species:  Salmon, chinook

Date:  2010

Sample:  skin

Ave Weight (gm):  0

Ave Water temp (°C):  0

Water:  Saltwater

Dosage:  50 mg/kg 3yrs

Route:  PO

Comments:  Salmonxanthin was the most abundant carotenoid. Skin carotenoid significantly higher in fish fed higher carotenoid diet than low carotenoid diet. No significant correlation between skin carotenoid concentration and the mass of astanxanthin per egg or mass of retinoid per egg. No relationship observed between skin brightness and skin carotenoid concentration or between skin hue and skin carotenoid concentration.
