Drug Safety Initiatives
In 2006, the Institute of Medicine, an independent body that evaluates the state of medicine, issued a report on drug safety in the United States 
.
FDA responded to that report by issuing, "The Future of Drug Safety: Promoting and Protecting the Health of the Public."
The FDA response outlines all the steps that the Agency is taking to strengthen the science that supports its medical product safety system, improve risk communication and information flow, and improve operations and management to strengthen the drug safety system.
