Scope/Abstract
This document specifies test methods for determining the maximum speed of electrically powered wheelchairs, including scooters, intended to carry one person with a maximum nominal speed not exceeding 15 km/h (4,167 m/s) on a level surface.

Transition Period
FDA recognition of 7176-6 Second edition 2001-10-01 [Rec# 16-29] will be superseded by recognition of 7176-6 Third edition 2018-06 [Rec# 16-204]. FDA will accept declarations of conformity, in support of premarket submissions, to Rec# 16-29 until December 28, 2019. After this transition period, declarations of conformity to Rec# 16-29 will not be accepted.
