A biomedical technician (biomed) at a user facility reported that smoke was coming from the capacitor in the power supply of a 2008t machine.A patient was not connected to the machine at the time of the incident. The machine was not in service when the issue occurred. The machine was initially pulled from the floor when it would not power on.The biomed replaced the mother board to resolve the power issue, and the machine began to smoke when it was powered on.A burning smell was also detected. The machine has approximately 25,000 hours and the power supply was original to the machine. The biomed replaced the power supply to resolve this issue. There was no other damage observed on any other components, or any other additional issues, associated with the smoking capacitor. The unit was returned to service at the user facility without issue and without reoccurrence of the event. The power supply was discarded by the biomed and is not available to be returned to the manufacturer for physical evaluation.
