As reported, during angioplasty of the leg, a hole was found in an advance 18 lp low profile balloon catheter.
The balloon was advanced through an unknown 5 french, 55 centimeter sheath to a 65% occluded lesion within the superficial femoral artery.
Calcification was minimal.
Angulation and tortuosity were not reported.
The user attempted to inflate the balloon with an unknown inflation device; however, the balloon would not inflate.
The balloon catheter was removed by itself and a hole was found in the proximal end of the balloon.
The procedure was completed successfully with another balloon, and the patient's outcome was good.
A section of the device did not remain inside the patient¿s body.
The patient did not require any additional procedures due to this occurrence.
According to the initial reporter, the patient did not experience any adverse effects due to this occurrence.
