A fresenius field service technician (fst) reported that a fresenius 2008t hemodialysis (hd) machine had a heater rod with a burnt wire.
The burnt wire was noticed during machine repair.
There was no burning smell, smoke, spark, flame, arcing, or any other visible heat or electrical damage related to the burnt wire.
A patient was not connected to the machine at the time of the incident and there was no harm to any patients or individuals because of this malfunction.
The machine has approximately 3,155 hours and the heater rod was original to the machine.
The fst reported that there was no damage observed on any other components, or any other additional issues, associated with the burnt wire on the heater rod.
The fst replaced the heater rod, which resolved the reported issue.
The machine passed all testing and was returned to service.
The heater rod is available to be returned to the manufacturer for physical evaluation.
