It was reported by an attorney that the patient underwent hernia repair surgery on (b)(6) 2011 and mesh was implanted.
It was reported that the patient underwent removal surgery on (b)(6) 2019 during which the surgeon noted there was a thick walled abscess cavity with spontaneous egress of approximately 60 ml of thick, yellow, foul smelling purulent fluid.
The abscess cavity was evacuated and irrigated revealing underlying bile stained umbilical mesh.
It was reported that the patient experienced severe pain, inflammation, swelling, periumbilical abscess, cellulitis, adhesions, bowel obstruction, serosal tears, nausea, scarring, disfigurement, stress and anxiety.
