It was reported that the intra-aortic balloon pump (iabp) gave multiple helium loss alarms during use on a patient.
As a result, the iabp was swapped out.
Follow-up: clinical support specialist (css) called the unit back to see if the second pump had any issues.
The pump had zero alarms since the staff swapped it.
The patient was in critical condition and had excessive (400cc) output from his chest tubes since arriving back on the unit from the or.
They had continued to infuse multiple rbcs with no change.
Dr.
Abraham, ct surgeon, discussed with the family that there was nothing else they could do for him.
The patient passed away spontaneously at 1100.
The pump functioned as expected and had no impact on expiration which was due to excessive bleeding.
