Event Description
Information was received from a patient who was implanted with an implantable neurostimulator (ins) for spinal pain.It was reported that the surgery to implant the ins was "very difficult" and took 3x the amount of time it was supposed to take.Pt noted they were awake during the surgery, and the hcp "overdosed" the pt on propofol, causing the pt to jump off the table and run around the room.Pt stated that the hcp found out that the pt was dependent on narcotics that were prescribed to the pt for pain, so the pt went to rehab.Pt noted they only used the ins for 1 week, but turned the ins off because the therapy caused the shaking and tremors from the narcotics to become worse.Pt stated that they are now off narcotics and their back pain has decreased by 90%.Pt stated that they have gotten medical scans (mri, etc.) done in the past w/ no issue.Patient services (pss) reviewed considerations w/ electively deciding to leave an ins implanted and considerations going forward.Pss is sending the pt physician listings in case the pt wants to remove the ins in the future.Pss asked, and the pt stated their previous hcp was dr.(b)(6), but that hcp (or mdt) never reached out to the pt.
