As reported by the legal brief, a patient underwent placement of an optease vena cava filter.The filter subsequently malfunctioned and caused injury and damage to the patient, including, but not limited to tilting.As a direct and proximate result of this malfunction, the patient suffered life-threatening injuries and damages, and required extensive medical care and treatment.As a further proximate result, the patient has suffered and will suffer significant medical expenses, pain and suffering and other damages.Per the implant records, the patient was reported to have a history of systemic lupus, hematemesis, deep vein thrombosis (dvt), pulmonary embolism (pe) and failure of anticoagulation.The right and left groins were prepped and draped in standard sterile fashion and the right common femoral vein was punctured using a micropuncture needle.A wire was advanced to the inferior vena cava (ivc) and a venacavagram performed demonstrated a normal ivc and identified both renal veins.The optease ivc filter was advanced and successfully deployed in the infrarenal portion of the ivc.The patient tolerated the procedure with no evidence of complications.According to the information received in the patient profile form (ppf), the patient reports tilting of the filter, becoming aware of this event approximately ten years and ten months after the filter implantation, and further experienced discomfort in the groin area and anxiety related to the filter.
