Event Description
|
The patient was undergoing a coil embolization procedure in the abdominal aorta using pod packing coils (pod pcs) and a lantern delivery microcatheter (lantern). It should be noted that the patient's anatomy was tortuous.During the procedure, the physician successfully implanted two ruby coils, one pod coil, and five pod pcs. When the next pod pc was advanced a few centimeters into the target vessel, the pod pc did not take its intended shape. The physician made three attempts to retract and re-advance the pod pc and reported that resistance was encountered while advancing and retracting the coil the third time.Subsequently, the pod pc became stuck in the distal end of the lantern and could not be removed. Therefore, the lantern containing the pod pc was removed from the patient and the pod pc was then removed. The procedure was completed using the same lantern and another pod pc.There was no report of an adverse effect to the patient.
