Event Description
Medtronic received information regarding a navigation system being used during a functional endoscopic sinus surgery (fess.) it was reported that the system was flickering between green and red status during navigation.The facility noted that the reported issue occurred exclusively with instruments that used instrument trackers and navigated blades did not have the reported issue.This issue occurred intraoperatively and caused no surgical delay.There was no impact on patient outcome.Additional information received indicated the troubleshooting performed was unknown.The reported issue sounded like metal interference/emitter positioning.The manufacturer representative attended another case with the surgeon and was unable to replicate the behavior.The manufacturer representative was going to perform an in-service to ensure the site was using the system correctly.The issue was considered to have resolved during the call.
