Event Description
|
Information was received from a healthcare provider via a company representative regarding a patient receiving morphine via an implantable pump.It was reported that the patient was scheduled to have a revision of their catheter and the revision was cancelled due to infection.The patient¿s pocket from the pump revision a few weeks ago looked infected [see manufacturer report #3004209178-2022-02447].Surgery was cancelled.There were no environmental, external or patient factors that may have led or contributed to the issue.The diagnostics and troubleshooting performed was the physician checked the wound and decided it was too red to continue with revision.Per the reporter, the revision of the catheter would take place eventually, nothing scheduled yet.The issue was not resolved at the time of the report and it was noted that that healthcare provider would not have any further information regarding the event.

Additional information was received from a healthcare provider (hcp) via a company representative who reported that the patient was not getting therapy with the existing catheter.There were no environmental, external, or patient factors that may have led or contributed to the issue.On 06-apr-2022 the patient was taken to surgery for the catheter revision.During the procedure, a new catheter was placed.The pump segment of the existing catheter was removed, and the remainder of the existing catheter was left in the patient.It was noted that the physician had difficulty getting the pump segment off of the pump but was able to do it.The issue was noted to be resolved, and it was indicated that the hcp had no further information to provide regarding the event.The pump was delivering morphine (2 mg/ml at.2 mg/day).

Additional information received from a healthcare provider via a manufacture representative reported the pump had been removed due to an infection at the pump site and catheter incision in the back.It was noted the hcp was going to remove asegment of the catheter that was left in the patient previously.
