Event Description
It was reported that the patient was admitted after three days of abdominal pain, shortness of breath, worsening fatigue, and subjective fevers. Pus was present around the ventricular assist device (vad) driveline cable exit site. A covid-19 test was negative and a computerized tomography (ct) scan showed only a short segment of the subcutaneous portion of driveline which did not confirm an infection. The patient received intravenous diuretics and the vad later exhibited low flow and suction alarms. The patient was also reported to have experienced diarrhea and poor oral intake. The patient was discharged and the vad remains in use. No further patient complications have been reported as a result of this event.
