Event Description

Information was received from a healthcare provider (hcp) via a company representative (rep) regarding a patient receiving morphine 20mg/ml at 5.2 mg/day via an implantable pump.It was reported that during a routine end of service pump replacement the surgeon discovered a significant crystallized/hardened capsule around the pump. The surgeon attempted to aspirate the catheter access port (cap) and was able to slowly withdraw approximately 0.5 ml.A capsulectomy took place and the surgeon was able to dissect/remove the capsule down to clean the catheter. The surgeon then cut and removed the existing pump segment and spliced on an 8596sc.The cap was then aspirated again with approximately 0.1 to 0.2 ml.The new pump was the placed inside the pump pocket and the incision was closed.Patient weight and medical history were asked but remain unknown. At the time of this report the issue had been resolved and the patients status was alive - no injury.
