Event Description
Medtronic review of literature found reports of foreign body giant cell reaction and granulomas of the brain parenchyma after pipeline implantation. A patient underwent pipeline-supported coiling of an incidentally discovered right parophthalmic aneurysm. Three months post-embolization, the patient developed mild left hemiparesis and periodic involuntary movements of the left upper extremity and left eyelid. Ct and mri showed right subcortical enhancing lesions. Subsequent biopsy showed granulomatous reactions with surrounding linear foreign material.
