(b)(4).The actual device has been returned and is currently pending evaluation.Once reliability engineering evaluates the device, a supplemental medwatch report will be sent accordingly.If information is obtained that was not available for the initial medwatch, a follow-up medwatch will be filed as appropriate.
 
Event Description
It was reported that during a tibial plateau fracture surgical procedure, it was observed that the small battery drive device worked intermittently.There were no delays to the surgical procedure.A spare device was available for use to complete the surgery successfully without further incident.There was patient involvement.There were no reports of injuries, medical intervention or prolonged hospitalization.All available information has been disclosed.If additional information should become available, a supplemental medwatch report will be submitted accordingly.
 
Manufacturer Narrative
The actual device was returned for evaluation.Reliability engineering evaluated the device and the reported condition of the device working intermittently was not confirmed.Therefore, the assignable root cause was not determined.However, during evaluation, it was observed that the device was an unusual noise, and the internal components were not lubricated.It was determined that this was due to lack of lubrication, which is improper maintenance.If information is obtained that was not available for the initial medwatch, a follow-up medwatch will be filed as appropriate.
