Event Description
While hanging new tpn for the patient, the iv tubing broke.After spiking the tpn bag, as soon as the tubing was let go, the tubing broke off of the spike and tpn began to drain onto the iv pump and floor.The tpn bag was quickly tipped upside down and an alcohol pad was placed on the open end of the spike.New iv tubing was brought in and the tpn bag was re-spiked and hung.The charge nurse was notified and the iv tubing was kept for further investigation.
