Title: circumcision in paediatric surgery using an ultrasound dissection scalpel.Author : a.Fette, j.Schleef, a.Haberlik and u.Seebacher.Citation: technology and health care 8 (2000) 75¿80.The objective of this study is to examine whether the ultrasound dissection scalpel can also be put to practical use in routine operations in paediatric surgery.A total of 24 boys with phimosis, ages ranging from 1 1/2 to 10 1/2 years (mean age, 6 years), underwent circumcision from july to october 1998.The ultrasound dissection scalpel (ultracision®, manufactured by ethicon) with a generator frequency of 55.500 hz and hs2 blade was used in the circumcision.One patient developed local candida infection in the first postoperative week.Heavy scarring (n=2) occurred subsequently.The authors concluded that the results show the advantages of the ultrasound dissection scalpel, e.G.Gentle tissue dissection with simultaneous haemostasis, can also be used to advantage for a technically simple operation such as circumcision without having to fear the risks of electrocautery.
