About FDA

Public Health Outcome: Improve FDA’s social media program by standing up an agency wide social media work group to develop social media policies and standardize best practices. This policy will govern how FDA manages its social media programs and as new channels are developed.

Accomplishment: With the FDA Social Media Policy completed, we now have in place a full process for FDA communicators to request social media channels in which to engage the public, based on sound strategy. Additionally, the policy provides guidance for FDA employees and contractors to engage in social media in their personal capacity. And finally, the new policy was sent to the UCS and they gave the policy an “A,” stating it is one of the best in the government, with special attention given to our processes for scientific use of social media. Overall, the policy will help enhance FDA’s already robust social media program with solid strategy, adherence guidelines, and examples of the other policies that govern these practices.
