Comments:
Fish were sacrificed by electrocution. Fish used in this study included females that were gender-reversed as fry using methyltestosterone. Genotypic or phenotypic male Nile tilapia obtained for trial. The dosing period was extended for an additional 2 d (12 d total) because Nile tilapia did not consume > 75% of the feed offered on the first two days. Mean minimum daily dose estimated at 13.98 (range:9.8-14.9) mg/kg BW/d (93% target daily dose). Mean florfenicol amine (FFA) concentration 1d post-dosing=1.05 ug/g, 2d-post-dosing=0.47 ug/g, 4d post-dosing=0.30 ug/g, 7d post-dosing=0.14 ug/g, 14d post-dosing=<0.08 ug/g, 21d post-dosing = 0.13 ug/g, 28d post-dosing=ND. FFA half life=2.32d. Significant differences in FFA concentrations were not observed at any time point between nile and hybrid tilapia.
