Manufacturer Narrative
The navio handpiece intended for treatment was returned for evaluation.Nothing was identified visually that contributed to the reported problem.A functional evaluation could not be performed due to broken/damaged parts. The gears would not turn.A review of manufacturing and service records indicate the device met all specifications upon release into distribution.A complaint history review for similar reported/confirmed complaints has identified prior events. The most likely cause of this event is handpiece motor prematurely failing after autoclaving.Further investigation into the reported failure is being conducting to determine if additional actions are required.Internal complaint reference number: (b)(4).

Event Description
It was reported that before a navio procedure, they ran a handpiece test and it could not be completed. The max torque value was 98, and the t2 iterations were 0/10.They replaced the handpiece for the case, so there was no impact to the case. After the case, they inspected the handpiece.Although nothing seemed to be broken, they could not actuate the gears manually.Even after applying a couple of drops of lubricant, the gears could not be actuated. No other complications were reported. The investigation found that the gears were broken/damaged and would not turn, and motor prematurely failing after autoclaving.
