It was reported that the balloon ruptured. The 90% stenosed target lesion area was located in a mildly tortuous and severely calcified diagonal bifurcation of the left anterior descending artery.A 10mmx3.00mm wolverine coronary cutting balloon was selected for use in percutaneous coronary intervention procedure.During the procedure, the device was inflated once for 15 seconds and since the lesion was very calcified, the balloon was not evenly inflated as there was a focal area that did not want to expand but finally "gave" and was fully expanded. It was noted that during the inflation the patient experienced typical chest pain. The cutting balloon was then removed from the patients body. However, upon removal, it was found that the balloon ruptured.Furthermore, the balloon appeared "torn" on one side and the blade was sticking out.The procedure was completed with another manufacturers device.
